i have been making my own essential oil blends for a couple of decades. from the time i was very young, i would find that a quick way to soothe me was through my senses…especially of the olfactory variety 🙂 when i was low, grapefruit would raise my spirits (even if only for a few seconds ;)…when i was stressed, lavender would do the trick. when i was distracted, a drop of mint under my nose would bring me back. and when i drove a needle through my finger with a sewing machine as a young aspiring seamstress, my mom ran to get the essential oils to revive me from having passed out. she knew me well in this way. i don’t think i chose this tendency, i feel that it chose me. as a teenager i began to create my own blends, learning from a couple of teachers, but mostly through experimentation. it is a grounding part of my personal self-care practice, one that i rely on in times of flux, exhaustion and of desperately needing some scent-induced mindfulness. xo
